[comp.sys.mac.system] Word Finder

dsk@casbah.acns.nwu.edu (Daniel Katz) (05/20/91)

When I bought Microsoft Word, it came with a DA called Word Finder, which
could only be used with Microsoft Word. Now that DAs have turned into
applications, it gives me a message, "This can only be used as a DA. For
a full version, spend $$s." (Something like that, anyhow.)

Is there any way to get around this problem?

Yes. Install it in the MS Word application itself. To do this, open Word
in Font DA Mover (to open anything but suitcases/System, you have to hold
down OPTION while hitting the Open button), open the Word Finder suitcase,
and copy it across. I haven't tried running Font DA mover under 7, but I
did this previously, and it still works.

This may work for other DAs not happy with the new regime (I haven't tried
any).

Maybe there's life in Font DA Mover for a while yet...

Run Font/DA Mover. Open the WordFinder DA, hold down option and click
on open and open the Microsoft Word application. Install the
WordFinder DA directly into Microsoft Word. Now WordFinder shows up
in the apple menu when you run Word and it works fine.

Alternatively I believe you can use Suitcase to open the WF DA and
then open it while holding down the option key while in Word.
