I posted a message yesterday saying that I got System 7, but a lot of people are having a hard time finding it as did I; so I decided to write a message explaining how much of a pain in the butt it was to get this. First off, I had a beta and final candidate versionfor three months. Big deal. I thought it would be neat when actually it was a waste without the docs and Think C 4.0.5 update & .h files. I could have easily gotten it from ftp.apple.com, but everyone knows how much of a pain that's been. So I decided to splurge and get it froma dealer. HA! My local dealer said Monday that it would be in Wednesday; Wednesday that it would be in Monday..... I live in North jersey and work in North/Central Jersey so Iwent through several phone books looking for "Authorized Dealers". What a joke! The ADs said any one of the following: Never heard of it (I'm not kidding) I don't know if we have it...I'll call you back. It's not out yet It's not coming out until June We SHOULD be getting it next week. I finally tracked down a store in Newark that had it. For those that want to buy it: call as many places as you can. Someone's bound to know what's going on but be patient, it's tough for some people to talk with their heads up their butts. I walked into my local Authorized Dealer last Wednesday (15th) and gosh, the first machine I walked up to had System 7 running on it. I thought I had it made. A salesman came by shortly: I told him I was looking to copy system 7, and could I just copy it from this machine here? He told me this was not the release version, they didn't have System 7 yet, and I'd have to pay for it when they did get it, as Apple was no longer allowing free distribution. I quickly looked at the About This Mac box and the System's Get Info box, both of which said 7.0 and didn't mention betas. He still refused to believe this was the release version. I thanked the salesman politely and went to find someone who had their bodily orfices aligned properly. In the back of the store was the Tech Rep's workplace, all abrimming with EE hardware I'll never understand. I told the man working there I was looking for System 7: he told me it had came in on CD-ROM yesterday and he'd put it onto my disks for me while I waited. While he was copying my disks for me, we chatted about all the neat new features in the new release and, well, the sorta things computer-geeks usually talk about. Ten minutes later I was walking out the door.
