Its interesting to hear all the different System 7 "funnies" that don't seem to be repeatable across different peoples setups. Here are a couple of mine: The system, a Mac IIsi, 5 meg RAM, 80 meg hard drive. 1. When restarting with virtual memory or 32 bit mode on, the Mac sometimes would crash into MacsBug. Now I was using MacsBug version 6.2 but the compatibility checker didn't even seem to notice MacsBug was on my (6.07) system. I have removed MacsBug for now and that may have made the problem go away, but I have also stopped using 32 bit mode or virtual memory for other reasons. What was interesting, sometimes I would have to restart two or three times before the system would finally boot up without crashing. I removed all inits (I was only using Desk Picture and the Dimmer) and the problem still persisted. I'm not sure if it was MacsBug or system related. 2. I removed all of my Narrow Helvetica screen fonts from the system yet all applications insisted Narrow Helvetica was still a valid font -- although when I tried to apply this font to text it just became Geneva. I tripple checked and there was absolutely no Narrow Helvetica font in the system. Finally, I just put the screen fonts back in (I also have the corresponding DeskWriter printer fonts, but that's a different matter). After all, if apps were going to insist the font was available it might as well really be there. I haven't tried to remove them again. 3. Solarian 1.04 with virtual memory on slows down and is real jerky. When my 6 year old boy complained about it being slow, I turned off VM and tried it again and it was fine. I told my boy the problem with Solarian was virtual memory, and he said, "I don't like virtue man memory Daddy.". Solarian shouldn't have been swapping at all, I have about 3 meg of real RAM on top of the system, and the disc didn't seem to be accessing, but Solarian was real slow/jerky.
