I must commend the group who put system 7 together. I really like it. It unified many disjoint aspects of the old OS. Also, I've yet to have a crash since I got it 4 days ago. I can't help but be curious about what was supposedly left out of 7. You know, that stuff that's supposed to go in 8? Does anyone have any good rumors? -- Russo, Chris A. I think Sculley had said at one time that the OS was moving to Unix, but then again he also stated that Apple was going to ship a major new System once every six months.. I hope Apple doesn't make the interface so complicated it becomes too hard for computer innocents to sit down at a Mac for the first time and walk away two hours later knowing how to manipulate files, use a word processor, and a couple of other apps. That's the strength of their product. -- ______________________________________________________________________________ Internet: scott@scotty.life.uiuc.edu AppleLink: ISware ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That's the strength of their product. I wouldn't worry about that. I think System 7 makes the Mac *easier* for novices to learn. Balloon Help alone is a great advance; this will become more apparent as more applications implement it. Additionally, the new Finder features make life a lot easier. You accomodate novices by not mentioning File Sharing, virtual memory, program linking, etc. until they have a need for it. The only problem I have is with new Mac users who have used mainframes or those "other" computers. They seem to have trouble understanding that they can run several programs at once and that they can have several documents open at once in a single program. Nice job, System 7 developers.
