The compatibility checker states that HeapFixer is "unnecessary" under System 7. Indeed, the dynamic allocation does seem to work properly. However, how does one increase the heapsize to make sure that there will be plenty of room for huge finder copies and LOTS of caching of TrueType fonts ??? More specifically, how can you make sure that a user will NOT use up all of the available memory by running 5-6 apps under multifinder and end up with something like 18K of system heap left ? Under system 6, I would give the system lots of room for the System Heap to grow. I would therefore be assured of ALWAYS having this memory available (or at least a portion of it) for TrueType caching. I have heard horror stories from customers who use TrueType and the LaserWriter LS. It takes forever for the thing to print. Why? They don't have enough system heap!!! Increasing the heap size OR using ATM with a huge font cache really speeds up things. How can I make sure that Mr.X will have PLENTY or RAM available when it comes time to print his document ???? Do I have to use ATM to get a decent font cache ? -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pascal Gosselin | Internet: P.Gosselin@CAM.ORG Applelink: CDA0585 | | Gest-Mac Inc.
