[comp.sys.mac.system] 7.0 on a CX

pkh@macpkh.meediv.lanl.gov (05/22/91)

I have heard rumors that SYS 7.0 will not work properly on a CX.
Does anyone know anything about this? Or is someone running 7.0
on a CX? Thanks

I'm running sys7 on a IIcx, with no problems at all. None. In fact,
I have not had a single crash under sys7. Wow. Of course, I
reformatted my hard drive before installing, and I'm only running 5 or
6 inits that are known to be compatible with sys7. All's well.

Well, I'm running system 7.0 on a Mac IIcx. In fact, I'm running
system 7 on a cx and 4 megs of virtual memory (only 2 megs of RAM),
and an incompatible MacTCP driver.

In fact, just yesterday I was running NCSA Telnet, Microsoft Word 4.0,
Hyercard 2.0v2 and the *Puzzle DA* all at the same time. When
Hypercard was frontmost, I was in serious VM thrash mode, (don't try
this at home, kids) but it did not crash. Absolutely amazing.

btw--whose voice is that in the Puzzle DA? It really startled me the
     first time I heard it...

Wow! I'm impressed. For the record, my IIcx is now functioning quite
happily...no problems.

I just listened to it about 3,345 times with ResEdit, and I can truthfully
say that I don't think I've met him ;-) Of course, I still have to meet
about 13,453 more Apple folks. I'll let you know when I run into "Ta-Da".
;-).

If you can read this, you can know that Sys 7.0 runs fine on a IIcx.

I simply backed up the old stuff, slipped in the disk, ran the compatibility
checker, ignored all the bad stuff it said, ran the installer, and it's been
running fine since.

No problems so far. The ballons ARE silly after a while (I don't normally
load HELP files on my hard disk for any application, so why should I use
Balloons?). For some reason (personal impression only), the Multifinder
action seems to work "better" now than before. I used to occasionally get
a crash under 6.0.5, but I haven't so far under Sys 7.0.

I've got some stuff on my desktop aliased, labelled, some shown by Icon,
some shown by kind (I like this one). In short, so far I like it. I don't
notice any slow down, but then I don't do too much "power" stuff.

I did have to shut down Word and MacTerminal so I could run a Director show
but that is because I "only" have 4 meg.

Oops, I just realized I could have turned on VM and run Word, MacTerminal, and
Director at the same time. All these news features are going to take some
getting used to.

Don't ask why I'm still using MacTerminal. Even I don't know.
