My father has a Mac Plus with 2.5 meg of ram, a 20 mb hard disk, a Laserwriter SC and a hand held scanner. He is currently running System 6.02 I think. He lives about 100 miles away and I haven't visited for a few months, so I am not certain of the exact version, but I know it is a few versions behind. He is pretty happy with his system. He does a lot of paperwork and charts at his job and has commented that he wishes he had more control over his fonts. The SC is non postscript and ships with 4 fonts I think. These fonts are bitmaps and you must have several sizes of each font to have high quality printouts. It seems to me that he needs to at least get the Truetype init and fonts, along with the new printer drivers that come with System 7.0. Are these new printer drivers the same as the new drivers that come with System 6.0.8 (mythically available via ftp from somewhere)? I am hesitant to install System 7.0 on his machine because he often scans large images and needs a lot of memory. He upgraded to 2.5 meg because he kept running out of memory when scanning some images. His hard disk is packed and it would be difficult to free enough room to install both System 6.0.7 and 7.0. For now, I would like to: - Install System 6.0.7 using 6.0.7 installation disks - Install System 7.0 (or 6.0.8) Printer driver using 7.0 (or 6.0.8) installation disks - Copy the Truetype Init to his System folder - Install whatever Truetype fonts I can get using the new Font/DA mover Is this all there is to this? Am I missing something? I would very much appreciate any help I could get with this, as I am visiting Mom and Dad this weekend (leaving Sat. morning - I will check my mail several times before I leave). I have the System 7.0 installation set. I have several the System 6.0.7 installation set. I have a disk with the Truetype init and several Truetype fonts on it. Thanks for any help you can give.
