[comp.sys.mac.system] Misc System 7.0 Info

I got alot of feedback on how to add cmd-keys to Finder menus.
Basically if you REPLACE the 3rd byte before the menu name with a
character the menu order will not be changed. However, if you DELETE
the 3rd byte, using the backspace, then insert the character the menu
order will be changed.

I have been reading about what is the BEST init manager. I grabbed
something called Extensions Manager from Applelink last week and it
works GRRRREAT!!. An engineer in Apple' Integrated Systems group,
Ricardo Batista, wrote it . It understands the new System Folder
hierarchy. It creates dup folders of Extensions, Control Panels, and
the System Folder proper and adds "(disabled)" to the names of them.
All it does is move any extensions or cdev's to these corresponding
"disabled" folders. One annoying point is Extensions Manager is a
control panel and so when you move or copy it to the System Folder it
wants to put it into the Control Panels folder. The problem is the
system reads the Extensions folder, Control Panels folder, and System
folder in that order. This means when you hold the space bar down to
bring up Extensions manager at startup, the extensions folder has
already been read. The simple solution is to make an alias and keep
the original in either the control panels folder or the extensions
folder, and the alias in the other folder. I like the balloon help
when pointing to Ricardo's name in the control panel: ...Ricardo is a
cool dude... Well Ric' bud it sure is cool!!!

If someone has or knows about a good "HierDA" for the new Apple Menu, I
would be VERY interested. Our users like the old shareware HierDA, but
NOW Software owns it and it's tough to justify getting a site license
for a utility of which only one or two components will be used. Anyone
heard about a shareware version???
