[comp.sys.mac.system] Suitcase and system 7

levin@star-trek.bbn.com (Joel B Levin) (05/18/91)

I don't pretend to know anything about system 7.0 (in fact I know
practically nothing, no pretending). I have heard that fonts and DAs
are handled better than at present.

A friend is getting a new machine and will probably go to 7.0 much
sooner than I will. She will probably not acquire a great man DAs,
but she will almost certainly use fonts by the ton. In system 6.0.x I
would recommend she buy Suitcase II; but if system 7.0 makes it
unnecessary, obviously I don't want to tell her to buy it. So the
question is: what does Suitcase do for one under system 7.0?

Thanks for any replies. If you mail answers, I'll summarize here.

Thanks to Kenneth Chang, Larry Rosenstein, Robert Hammen, and Steve
Brecher, the author of Suitcase for responding. The bottom line is
that I will recommend to my friend that she buy Suitcase. While it is
relatively easy in System 7 to move fonts in and out of the System
file, it is essentially similar to using Font/DA Mover. Suitcase lets
you keep the suitcase files separate and include or remove them from
the current list individually without copying to or deleting from the
System (or any) file.

I should add that I know no reason that MasterJuggler shouldn't be
used instead of Suitcase; it is merely that I happen to own and like
Suitcase and I don't know anything about MasterJuggler. I have no
connection with Suitcase, its author or publisher, except as a happy user.
