[comp.sys.mac.system] 2 Hard Drives/2 Systems

Hi,

I received System 7.0 several days ago but am hesitant to test it
on my current hard drive because I am not sure whether it is worth
installing it despite its reviews. I have an internal HD, as well
as an external HD which I use mainly as a backup. I was wondering
if I can install System 7.0 onto my external HD rather than the
internal HD. Is there anyway to "deactivate" the internal HD so
that only the external HD boots up? I know that it's not
recommended to boot two systems at the same time. Can anyone
help? Thanks in advance!

Well you don't say what kind of Mac you have, but as long as it's
greater than a plus you can use "StartUp Disk" to select the boot
device. There is also nothing wrong with having a system folder on
each drive, just don't have more than one system folder on any given
drive. I have 6.0.5 with Desktop Manager on my internal drive, and
7.0 on my external. I freely switch between the two without a hitch.
(i.e. no rebuilding of the desktop etc.).

Todd
