When I was using System 6.0.7, I would generate a postscript file of a document that I wanted to print, transfer it to my Unix box, and then use macps to print it. In theory, this is somewhat easier with System 7. In System 7, the print dialog includes a check box for producing a postscript file. However, even the smallest document produces an enormous file. A one *character* document produces a postscript file that is over 500K! It seems that the LaserPrep file is always attached along with some other stuff. I transferred the resulting file to my Unix system to see if I could figure out what this other stuff is. Running the file through prepfix produces a 30K LaserPrep file. So, what's the other 470K for? TrueType info? Do I really need all this extra baggage every time I want to print a file? Even after compressing this file it still takes a long time to transfer it a 1200 baud. Rick Zaccone -- zaccone@bucknell.edu
