[comp.sys.mac.system] Question about type 3 fonts

leo@duttnph.tudelft.nl (Leo Breebaart) (05/30/91)

I think I am finally getting the hang of this System 7.0 versus
PostScript/TrueType/Bitmap font thing, but I have one question left.
My apologies if it's a stupid one.

If I have ATM installed, and I have files with the Adobe icon in my
System folder (files with names like 'CoopeBla' and 'Couri'), then
ATM works for these fonts, i.e. I get scaled screen fonts.

If I have files with the same type of name, but with an icon
consisting of a laserwriter with a little "1"-sheet entering it
(standing for a type 1 font I suppose), then I *also* get scaled screen
fonts, rather to my surprise (and no, I have *not* installed
the truetype font).

If I have files with the same type of name, but without any icon,
or if the icon consists of a laserwriter with an "F"-document
entering it, then I still get nicely printed characters, but
no longer scaled screen fonts.

My question is: why is this so, and can I do something about it,
i.e. is there a way to make ATM display 'normal' type 3 fonts?

(And in case you're thinking of flaming me: please don't. I have
access to Macintoshes with ATM installed on them, but I simply
do not have access to the documentation.)

All help and information much appreciated.

Cheers,
