Users of GCC PLP-2 SCSI printers and System 7.0 will receive a weird error when attempting to select their printer via the chooser. The System 7 Compatibility checker does not hiccough on the PLP-2 driver extension, but neither is this extension placed into the Extensions folder after the installation of the new operating system. Placing the driver in the extensions folder makes it appear in the Chooser. The message "Window is not active because a dialog window is open" will appear when the PLP-2 is selected from the chooser. The printer will not function. According to a GCC representative (at 1-800-422-7777), GCC is aware of the problem, and will have a new driver available "after May 28th" for $40. -- Bob Alberti Micro and Wkstn Networks Ctr, U of MN // aka: Albatross| Unitar- Internet: alberti@boombox.micro.UMN.EDU \\// Images BBS| ian/ Disclaimer: My employer does not mean what I say. // (612) 884-7951| Univer- Ingredients: 30% header, 30% quote, 10% content, 30% cutesy signature.| salist!

Below is a copy of a message I just finished posting to comp.sys.mac.system. PLP 3.0, should hopefully be shipping next week. (NOTE: I said -hopefully-) Since GCC isn't connected up to Internet, we really can't support it. I unofficially support it and the new driver WILL be posted to info-mac. I'll also be happy to post it to umich, if someone will be so kind as to mail me with submission guidelines. As for the $39, we really have to provide that option. There's customers out there who are using really old drivers without the compressed fonts, etc. The $39 includes the three-disk set as well as new manuals/addendums. If there's sufficient interest, I'll also be happy to post the new drivers for the WriteMove, WriteImpact, and ColorFast, but won't do so unless I receive sufficient requests, since there's no need to clutter Stanford's archives. If you wish to see these posted as well, send me mail.
