[comp.sys.mac.system] Type 28 Error on PrintMonitor -- Fixed

rkmossm@PacBell.COM (Richard Mossman) (06/06/91)

The title line says it. Thanks to Ron Voss (Apple) and Jeff Keegan for the
help.

I decided to approach the fix in a relatively scientific manner (gosh!). I
first removed LaserPrep (Ron said it wasn't necessary anymore unless used with
a print server). Reboot -- no help

I then removed Virex 3.1 from the system folder and Virex INIT 3.1 from the
Control Panel folder (Jeff's suggestion). Reboot -- Gadzooks it works!

I am once again printing fine. Ron suggested that I reload Sys. 7, but I
wanted to try to get the PrintMonitor working without going to (what I consider)
such a drastic move. I have not reloaded Sys. 7 and seems to be working fine.

So, for now it looks like Virex was the culprit. I feel kind of naked without
it. Hope a new version comes out soon.

On another topic (still in the system realm thought):

Now that Apple has announced QuickTime, what impact will that have on those
of us that do work with slides, animation, video, etc. I don't care about
sharing it between applications on the Mac (I can't carry this horse around
with me). I need to have an easier way of getting stuff to video tape (easier
AND CHEAPER).

I must admit (please don't flame), the Amiga and Toaster is an inexpensive
(not necessarily better) way to get many things out to tape or monitors.
Basically, will this help me do what I have to do and still (finally!!) be
able to use a Mac without mortgaging the house, dog and kids?

I'm willing to wait to the end of the year to buy a more powerful Mac if
QuickTime will help with the ease and the costs.

Just wondering!
