Help! Here's the problem, and I would just like to hear from anyone who can explain a possible cause: - I have a Mac SE with HD20, which has worked fine since 1988 - I installed System 7.0, tested a bunch of software (worked out OK, mostly) - and then... when returning to look at my hard disk in the Finder, some folders were gone! (notably System Folder and Utilities, possibly others >= "S" in alpha order) (my Apple Menu Items disappeared too, I think that was my first clue! :-) - the system kept working, so I tried Disinfectant, which didn't even see the missing folders, but didn't find any other problems - I restarted from a floppy (the hard disk no longer had a system!), and the hard disk was there, still missing the folders - then, another time when I restarted (again from a floppy), I was told that "This disk is damaged. Wanna initialize it?" (eek! no no no no no) Co...INCIDENCE? Yeah, I'll buy that, but is there any known incompatibility between 7.0 and, say, the HD20 drivers? Can anyone figure why I had this "creeping" failure, first a couple of folders, then the whole disk? I'm a software guy, so I'd just say "sounds like a hardware problem to me!". ;-) Any help is greatly appreciated, -Dick -- Dick Jackson National Research Council Canada jackson@ciitip.ciit.nrc.ca CIIT - Winnipeg, Manitoba *** All opinions expressed here are mine, not the Council's, not the Queen's...

Well, I managed to find out that the printed manuals DO say something about this, it's the HD20 drivers that need to be replaced. I copped out and just re-initialized with 7.0's HD SC Setup. No problems since. -- Dick Jackson National Research Council Canada jackson@ciitip.ciit.nrc.ca CIIT - Winnipeg, Manitoba *** All opinions expressed here are mine, not the Council's, not the Queen's...
