I recently downloaded Sys7 from apple, and installed it on my 2.5 meg mac 128->512->512e->2.5 meg w/scsi whatever it is now. Whenever I start up the machine, I get a dialog which tells me the selected appletalk driver is not there, and it will use the built in local-talk one instead. I do not have appletalk, and I deleted everything that might be remotely related to appletalk from the disk. The only thing I have connected to the modem port is a high speed data line to the campus network. When the mac starts up, this line has no power, (it has a power pak which is not plugged in until I use it), so what's the deal? If you have any ideas, please reply or leave me e-mail Mike onghenam@cs.rpi.edu The data line thing behaves like a modem, not like a network. I use standard terminal software with it, NCSA telent does not work, but any modem software will.
