I have a problem that appeared when I upgraded my Mac IIfx to System 7.0. The manifestation is that playing any sound other than the simple beep causes the system to hang. * If I go to the "sounds" control panel and select any sound other than "simple beep", the system plays the sound once and then hangs. * If I open the system file with ResEdit, select the SND resources, select one of them, and then select "play sound" under the SND menu, the system plays the sound, and puts up the dialog box saying "Now playing sound ...." and hangs until I click the "stop" box in the dialog. I have no inits or unusal CDEVS. I've installed twice, throwing away the system folder between installations. Other users with presumably identical hardware have installed Sys 7.0 from the same set of disks, with no problems. So what have I got? Is this a known failure mode? A hardware problem?
