Yes, it was a late night, but no I'm not talking about the outline of the window durring dragging. I'm referring to a stray dotted line that appears 1 inch above the bottom of the window's content region. This line appears *after* the drag is completed. Did you bother to try this on your machine? Again, just turn on Balloon help, click on the center of the a Finder window title, wait for the balloon to draw, drag the window up an inch and voila, an extra line is left in the window. Specs: Mac IIci 8meg System 7.0 "Final", "Golden", "Rock Solid" or whatever its called this week. PLEASE NOTE: This is a small cosmetic bug. It doesn't bother me, I just thought it should be mentioned :)

I found that an extra step is necessary on my SE/30. Here is how I cause the extra line to be drawn 1) Turn on Baloon Help with the Finder in the foreground. 2) Position the mouse in a Finder window's title bar and wait for the balloon to appear. 3) Move the window. 4) Release the mouse button, and click it again before the balloon reappears. This was the crucial step for me. 5) Drag the window so that its outline is still within the picture of the old window on the screen. 6) When the mouse button is released, the window is redrawn with the gray outline in the same position in the new window as it had in the picture of the window before it was dragged. Yes, I know that sounds a bit confusing, but try it and you'll see what I mean. It appears that the outline of the window that is being dragged is not erased before the window is drawin in its new position, and this outline is copied to the newly drawn window. I just found another way to reproduce this effect. 1) Have an application's window in the background with Balloon help on, and the Finder in the foreground. Position the cursor over the window in the background so that the This window belongs to.. balloon is displayed. 2) Quickly move the mouse to a Finder window's title bar and click on the title bar before the Title Bar balloon appears. 3) Move the window so that its outline is still within the old window. 4) Release the mouse and look at the outline drawn in the newly positioned window. Neat stuff :)

In a previous post, I outlined the steps necessary for me to get the gray lines drawn in Finder windows that have been moved when Balloon Help is enabled. I think I have found the culprit. If I boot without SuperBoomerang 2.0.3, I cannot reproduce this effect. If I boot with SB, I can get the effect, even if SB is turned off. I also discovered that I cannot get the effect consistently unless another application's window is in the background. I like System 7 and SuperBoomerang a lot. Is there any danger in using SB with System 7?

Startup without the "Finder Help" extension (for example by holding down the shift key). Now be perverse and try bubble help anyway. Some things have their help bubbles, some don't. Control panels are explaned as "Note Pad". Get Info on a file, and point to the icon or the comment space. BOMB... Error -97 (I think), resource not found. But this fits in the innocuous category, since you just hit OK and everything is fine. -- Gerald A. Another minor cosmetic bug.... I was playing with Balloon Help last night, and decided to try moving the Trash icon with B.H. on... The help message jumped to the top left corner of the desktop momentarily, when I dropped the trash can back onto the desktop. This I repeated 3 times. :) I haven't checked it with hard drives or anything else, because it doesn't really matter. :) But I thought someone might be collecting useless info like this... :)

Could a fooled me but I'm still waiting for that floppy to come out.. It's in there somewhere! I'm still trying to get over the balloon that explains what the Hide Balloons is supposed to do :) On a more serious note if apple was gonna go that far they should have had an uninterrupted ballon that would explain what the Show Balloons item was for... That would have given them the opportunity to present an examle of a ballon without having balloons poping up all over the place. BTW, is there a little routine out there that can control those rascals I mean the balloons are nice I like the idea, but after a few unsuspected balloons creep up you got to admit that it's time to say bye bye balloons. "I admit it, I can't get to the Hide Balloons fast enough!" Is there any easy way to put balloons into programs? Say with ResEdit? That would be nice for some of those old programs that run on 7.0 but don't have balloons...
