[comp.sys.mac.system] UnlockFolder application

robg@Apple.COM (Rob Griffiths) (06/12/91)

There have been some occasional observations here about hard disks and/or
folders that, for whatever reason, cannot be renamed under System 7.

Kazy Yanagihara, an Apple employee, developed a tiny little application
called UnlockFolder to handle situations like this.

Kazu has volunteered this tiny application into the public domain. It
is, in no way at all, to be construed as an Apple product. It's in the
same boat as Applicon and/or the Extensions Manager. Nice, useful,
and definitely not Apple products :-).

When might you need this program? I used it when my hard disk became
un-renamable, regardless of the setting of file sharing, and/or any of
the information in ResEdit. It worked perfectly. It's also worked on
a friend's ornery hard disk...

Now, it may or may not work for the particular disk/folder you are having
problems with. And, of course, there are no guarantees "expressed or
implied." It's your data ... you decide how important it is :-). (I
would probably clone the folder first, assuming its contents were small
enough ...)

If someone will be so kind as to provide brief (via email) info on how to post
to Sumex, I will upload the application. It will also (probably quicker)
appear on mac.archive.umich.edu.

-rob. They don't pay me to speak for Apple...so I don't!
