OK, two things here: 1. Hard drive formatting/partitioning: We have a stock Mac SE/30 with 4 Megs of RAM and an 80 Meg HD in our office. For some strange reason, when I use the Apple HD SC setup program (under 6.0.7 or 7.0) it won't let me use the last 3 Megs or so of the hard drive - I can't make the main partition any bigger than about 78 Megs. This is the list of partitions it gives me: Partition Map 31.5 K Mac Driver 16 K Kato's World 78135 K Free Space 3846 K If I delete our main partition (Kato's World) it absolutely refuses to let me create a bigger partition to use that last 3846 K. Why?? This is annoying; there's space sitting there on the drive not doing anything. It won't let me make the space into another Mac partition either. Suggestions?? 2. System 7 fun: After installing the wonderful "Rock Solid" System 7, I had two incidents, the second of which pretty much completely trashed the drive and made me temporarily switch back to 6.0.7. First, for some reason (I have no idea what started it) my icons suddenly began to switch around, or turn into garbage. Like our copy of Z-Term had somehow gotten the icon from Disinfectant. And my Word icon turned to garbage, along with some others. Rebuilding the desktop seemed to solve this problem. However, the following day I was doing some things. I'm still confused about exactly what happened, but I was just moving around some files when I suddenly realized that it had somehow put two copies of the same file in the System folder - which should be impossible! I closed the System folder, reopened it, and the only thing that showed up was the Extensions folder. Becoming annoyed, I restarted the Mac to try to cure the problem. Wrong. It didn't restart. Booting off floppy, I discovered that EVERYTHING in the System folder had completely disappeared - except that the hard drive still thought that exactly the same amount of space was used on it as before this had happened. Rebuilding the desktop didn't help at all. I had to reformat the HD to cure this. Rock Solid? Yeah, right. I hope we'll be seeing 7.0.1 soon. Any help with the hard drive problem is appreciated, and any advice about these strange Sys 7 occurences is welcome.
