Hmmm. A moderator to screen the articles & decide if they're worthwhile..... No thanks! Although the intentions may be honorable, I prefer to be my own censor. Doesn't the Soviet media do the same for its people? ....doesn't need anyone to do it for me, Bob

Although the intentions may be honorable, I prefer to be my own censor. Doesn't the Soviet media do the same for its people? ---------- Well, actually the American media does just the same thing; we call it EDITING. Somebody has to decide which is the news that's fit to print. But let's not start up the debate over moderated digests versus open bulletin boards, at least not in net.general. Since both net.announce and net.general will be available, let's just let those who want a trim, edited, guaranteed germane notesfile read one, and those with the time to read everything posted read the other. scott ("I like editors so well I married one") preece pur-ee!uiucdcs!uicsl!preece

Scott Preece has the idea. It would be censorship if I moderated EVERY newsgroup. However, all I've done is create a new class of newsgroups, with an added value. I am doing nothing to try to prevent anyone from getting information out to the world - the existing newsgroups are still there. net.general isn't working. There are many people out there who cannot keep up with it, and have stopped reading it. Those of you who are left have a high pain threshold (or else a lot of time on your hands). We need a way to reach EVERYBODY, and have to offer something that will even be attractive to people who have no time for netnews.
