[Apologies if either of these have been asked recently . . . the volume's been a bit high lately :-)] First, the easy question: is there an upgrade to the Blesser utility or something similar that will let me switch between 6.0.7 and 7.0 on the same hard disk partition, by just maintaining two system folders? The Blesser I have doesn't recognize System 7.0's System file as a system file. Now the toughie. I have a bitmap font I was using with no problems under 6.0.7 but which refused to work under 7.0. It was shareware, written by some poor student somewhere, so there may be something weird about it, but I never had any trouble under 6.0.7 or earlier. Under 7.0, however, any suitcase containing this font cannot be opened by double-clicking from Finder: it complains that the file is "damaged". But Font/DA Mover 3.8 and 4.1 both can read it with no problem. So, I decided to try installing it in the system suitcase/file using F/DA 4.1, despite Apple's warnings to the contrary. Installation went fine, the font now shows up in font menus, documents containing it look right, but if I double-click the system file I am now told that IT is damaged. No other symptoms, however. Any ideas? Reply by e-mail please (post as well if you like; I'll post a summary if I get any solutions). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Carson T. The problem with Blesser not recognizing the new system file is because the new system has the file type 'Zsys' (upper case Z) instead of 'zsys' (lower case z). There're 2 ways to solve this problem: 1) Change the file type of your 6.0.7 system from 'zsys' to 'Zsys'. And then use ResEdit and modify Blesser. Search for the 'zsys' string in the CODE resource and change it to 'Zsys'. From now on you Blesser will recognize both old and new system files. 2) Just change your 7.0 system file type to 'zsys'. I prefer the first option because I know eventually I'll be using v7.0 primarily so I don't want to change anything there. Hope this helps. ============= Carl Lim MIT '92 cklim@athena.mit.edu
