Two questions: 1) Can somebody explain the difference between EtherTalk Phase I and EtherTalk Phase II ? 2) Does System 7.0 only support Phase II ? A little background... I am attempting to upgrade to 7.0 on a Mac IIci connected to a Sun network via Ethernet. We are currently using IPT's uShare file server/print spooling software, and EtherTalk Phase I. From the Mac side with this setup, everything looks like normal AppleShare, even though the file server is a Sun Sparc. After installing the new system on the Mac, I notice that only EtherTalk Phase II is installed, and I now can't connect to our server as usual. Selecting the old EtherTalk Phase I icon in the Network Control Panel (after putting a copy if it back into the System Extensions folder...) still doesn't allow me to connect to the server. We are about to upgrade our server software to a new version that supports either EtherTalk Phase I or II (but not simultaneously). I tried the Mac w/ 7.0 + Phase II with the new server s/w and it connected to the server ok, but since it can't support I & II together the other Macs w/Phase I on the network now don't see the server. Once all our Mac's are upgraded to 7.0 or Phase II then there shouldn't be a problem, but I'm still curious as to what's going on here - also I'd like to try out 7.0 on just one Mac before upgrading the other machines. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks! -- Brett Cheng uunet!jericho!brett S-MOS Systems, Inc. Vancouver Design Center
