Sometimes the Finder crashes with an Illegal Instruction error when resolving an alias through the "Find Original" button. I am not sure what conditions lead to the crash. Has anyone else experienced something similar? If so, have they determined what conditions cause it? I am using an SE/30 . I want to get to the bottom of this! Not enough to discover a pattern. The first time I didn't do anything strange (except for pressing 'find original'), the second time it happened after I did something naughty: To find out how some of the Finder's new control panels work (they do not contain any code!) I changed the type/creator of a random application to the type/creator of the views control panel. Indeed, the application, when double clicked, behaved exactly like the views control panel. There was an alias to the application of which I changed the type/creator, and the Mac crashed when trying to find the original (from the Get Info window). When I changed the type/creator back, everything was normal again. Thinking about this... Maybe it goes wrong a) when a certain type/creator combination isn't unique, or b) when the type/creator of an alias's original is changed... or something entirely different of course... pooh -- /********************************************************************* * Everything stated above is absolutely true. * Only the facts have been changed to protect the people involved. ***/
