[comp.sys.mac.system] Changing max number of open windows on desktop???

cobbn@cogsci.ed.ac.uk (Nick Cobb) (06/25/91)

I am trying to edit the boot block using FEdit 3.6 and have also tried
Resedit 2.1 to change the maximum number of open files field so that I
can open more windows under the finder.

The problem is: no matter what I do, I always end up with 0A in this field
after rebooting.

Does anybody know how to change this???????? Surely I have enough memory
in a Mac SE30 to open up more windows than the default maximum.

When I was beta testing StuffIt Deluxe, I had this problem, too. It
turned out to be a feature of Magic Menu. Magic Menu runs in the
Finder's heap. Apparently, Aladdin determined that if you opened
more than 10 windows in the Finder, they didn't have enough memory
to do their own stuff, so they limit you to 10 windows.
