I'm looking for a driver to provide a serial-line connection between a Mac and a Postscript printer. The printer, an NEC 890, is shared by several PC users, through an automatic serial switch; now one Mac enthusiast is joining the group. The NEC will accept an Appletalk connection, but won't switch automatically between serial and Appletalk input, like some new models. We have a few boards that could provide Appletalk functionality for the PCs -- but TOPS software bites wurgleblats with Windows, and Appleshare PC eats too much conventional memory to be a viable option. We can drop a Phonenet line to a Laserwriter down the hall, but I'm reluctant to penalize the Mac user for being smart enough to use the right machine for her needs. So ... is there a Postscript driver that directs its output to a selectable serial port, a la the Imagewriter driver? Would the Personal Laserwriter driver work? Am I overlooking something obvious? All suggestions appreciated.
