[comp.sys.mac.misc] SE/30 - nice manual, guys

nick@lfcs.ed.ac.uk (Nick Rothwell) (05/30/90)

I got my SE/30 yesterday (replacing a Mac Plus). Just some words of
praise for the SE/30 owner's manual. The section introducing the idea
of a computer, what it does, what it contains, how disks and
processors work, and so on, is very nicely written. It covers all the
essential concepts clearly and accurately, and manages to go into a
fair amount of interesting and topical detail, without getting too
confusing on the one hand, or patronising on the other.

The only technical point I might be inclined to dispute is that you
need a PMMU to multitask. But I don't want to start off this flame-war
again...

Not that I need this introductory material myself, but it's one of the
best "what a computer is and how it works" articles I've seen
anywhere. Kudos to the writer(s).
