A brief summary of the responses to my request for Macintalk: Macintalk was commissioned by Apple years ago to work with the slower machines. It is unsupported, but available for those who want it. Someone said it is on the sumex archives at Stanford, but I couldn't find it. Someone else said it won't work at all on faster machines, such as my SE/30. The guy who wrote Talking Moose includes the Macintalk driver when you pay his publisher $20 for his application. Macintalk won't work under System 7, but Apple is supposedly working on a replacement to work on multiple OS versions and hardware configurations. (When?) I'd like to hear a more authoritative / less rumor-filled accounting of future developments of speech-generation software for the Mac. Anyone know more? Anyone from Apple care to comment? --Ron Ueberschaer SRI International ubi@unix.sri.com
