At one of our departments, we have the following Apple LocalTalk Network installed: 1 - Mac SE 1 - IBM PC w/ 20MB HD, 640K RAM, PC-LocalTalk Card 1 - IBM PC/XT w/ 20MB HD, 640K RAM, PC-LocalTalk Card 1 - Apple LaserWriter II NT All the above use Farallon PhoneNet LocalTalk connectors. Also, both PC's are running PC-AppleShare 2.01. The problem is this: Printing speed from the PC's to the LaserWriter. Using MS-Word 4.0 on the Mac, it takes 30 sec. to print a 1-line document. When using WordPerfect 5.1 on the PC, however, a 1-line document takes 2 minutes and 45 seconds to print! This is using the Apple LaserWriter II NT WP printer driver. If I use the Epson LQ-2500 driver, the same document only takes 30 seconds. Of course, the user much prefers the LaserWriter fonts to the Epson fonts. The AppleTalk card is set up using the polled-drivers (as recommended in the PC-LocalTalk manual). Has anybody experienced similar problems? Is there some setting I'm overlooking on the network that will speed things up? Or is the slowness of the PC running WP 5.1 combined with the additional overhead of the AppleTalk network too much to overcome? I have setup PC/XT's connected serially to a LaserWriter NT via a Logical Connection, using WP 5.0 for printing and have not experienced this kind of slowdown (but I know WP 5.1 does most things slower than 5.0). Any suggestions? Thanks. *********************************************************************** * L.
