I am having a problem transferring some files to my Mac from my UNIX account. The way I am doing it now, I download binhexed files from sumex and other places, transfer them using zmodem protocol, from ZTerm (Text Transfer option), and then use StuffIt to unbinhex and Unsit. This works fine. However, I recently got the UNIX program mcvert which is supposed to take a binhexed file and make it into macbinary. Then, I should be able to download it to ZTerm with the MacBinary option. This would be beneficial for two reasons: 1), the binary files are shorter, so they would take less time to download, and 2) some files from areas other than sumex are in binary form, which must be download with the macbinary option. This requires me to download the file in two shifts, one for the text files, and one for the binary. Since I usually download while I am sleeping, this is a problem. Note that the files which I ftp'ed in MacBinary form work properly. However, the mcverted files create of Mac file of type/creator ????/????, and StuffIt will not open it, even after I manually set it to SIT!/SIT! Does anyone have any experience using mcvert?? Please respond by mail. Thanks. Michael A. Schoen AT&T Bell Laboratories (provided for identification only) mas@ulysses.att.com
