[comp.sys.mac.misc] How to tell if a bitmap font has its laser font counterpart?

sun@robios.eng.yale.edu (Kang Sun) (07/19/90)

Greetings,

Maybe the subject does not make much sense. When I use
SUITCASE II to show fonts, it indicates some fonts, such as Chicago,
as bitmap fonts, and others, such as Courier, having a Laser font
counterpart under the name such as Couri. I wonder where is this piece of
information stored and if it can be changed?

My real problem is this: I am running the Chinese Mac System
6.03, both Taibei and Beijing version. All the fancy Chinese fonts,
such as Song, are shown to have corresponding Laser fonts. Anyway, if
there is a LaserWriter directly connected to the Mac, the documents
will be printed properly with the right Chinese Characters, or at least I
was told so.

However, I do not have a LaserWriter connected on my Mac, and
I usually get eps file by control-f and upload it to mainframe for
printing. When I capture the eps file, the system assumes Laser font
exists in the printer and thus, will not generate the Chinese
characters according to what it sees on the screen. Obviously the
Chinese laser font does not exist in the LaserWriter on mainframe, and
thus no Chinese characters are printed with the eps file. I was
wondering maybe if I somehow make the system believe the Chinese fonts
are bitmapped, then my problem can be solved.

Please send me E-mail. Thank you.
