[comp.sys.mac.misc] Switching between itl resources - how to?

meldal@bach.Stanford.EDU (Sigurd Meldal) (07/26/90)

I have a US System, and would occasionally like to use a Norwegian
date, day, etc. format. I know how to munge the itl resources in the
system to get this (e.g. replace the English names for the days with
the Norwegian ones, etc.).

However, I would prefer not to have to reboot every time I want to
change from the US to the Norwegian format, since I have a lot of
stuff running under MultiFinder.

I have tried duplicating the resources, so that I have one US (id=0)
and one Norwegian (id=1. Does it matter?) for each of the itl's.
However, I have no idea how I can change between them on the fly. The
only change I have managed to effect is on the keyboard, where the
control panel comes to the rescue (i.e. I can switch between the US
and Norwegian KCHR using the keyboard cdev).

Does anyone know how to get the similar effect on the rest of these
national resources?

Best regards,

Sigurd

[followup to comp.sys.mac.system]

[Sigurd Meldal <meldal@bach.Stanford.EDU> wants to easily switch between
the US and norwegian version of the international resources]

The System file may in fact contain several versions of the international
resources. Some non-US versions of the system software come with a control
panel device called "International" which allows you to switch between them.
You still might have to reboot after a switch, at least the Finder doesn't
seem to recognize it on the fly (I just tried it out).

There is also a diskette called "Localizer" which allows you to install
various versions of the international and keyboard resources.

I think Apple should make these tools generally available. (That's why I
post a followup rather than answering by email.)
