Before buying Stuffit Deluxe (even at the discount price for current users), what I want to know is: does it still support BinHex and PackIt files? David Fry fry@huma1.harvard.EDU Department of Mathematics fry@huma1.bitnet Harvard University ...!harvard!huma1!fry Cambridge, MA 02138

It can sutff and unstuff archives of version 1.5.n format. It cannot handle the rival .cdt format archives that are starting to show up on GEnie. These are made by a program called Compactor which (supposedly) makes smaller archives faster than StuffIt. Compactor can unstuff v1.5.n Sutffit archives faster than StuffIt can, but is not as fully featured. One nice thing about StuffIt Deluxe is that text and PICT files can be viewed before unstuffing them onto the disk (requires .5Meg free memory). Viewers for other file types can be created by third parties for use with SD as an external module. SD also allows traversal of the stuffed folder hierarchy (finally!). Most other features are pretty much the same. Oh yeah, I almost forgot :-) :-) :-0 StuffIt Deluxe now has a built in scripting language! I haven't looked at it much yet but... IMHO, it is now a mature product. I hope they don't evolve it beyond usability. Dale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dale M. It will decode binhez and packit. It will also decompress zip, arc, and of course the old sit format. And boy is it fast! Len Schultz Carnegie Mellon University Browns in 1990!!! The barking by the lake is ominously loud.

And you can write a script to unBinhex all .hqx files in a folder, and even put the script in the menu, and add a command key equivalent. You can do the same thing for .pit files.
