On my IIcx under 6.0.5 (sonic finder and inits up the wazoo) the Word Finder DA that comes with MS Word 4.0 can't seem to locate the thesaurus file unless it's in my system folder. If I just put it in the folder that the Word application is in (which the documentation says should work), I get a "Please locate the thesaurus file" dialog whenever I start Word Finder up. I could just keep it in my system folder, but I'm trying to avoid that; I'm already suffering from a serious case of System Folder Bloat. I called tech support, but didn't get very much useful information. The guy who answered ran through the usual helpful suggestions, but basically couldn't come up with an explanation as to why it doesn't work right. About all he could come up with was "The computer has a list of places to look and for some reason it isn't finding the file". I was tempted to launch into my "Look, bub, I know what a search path is" speech, but I guess that wouldn't have been fair; the guy was just doing his job. So, does anybody know why it doesn't work? -- Roy Smith, Public Health Research Institute 455 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016 roy@alanine.phri.nyu.edu -OR- {att,cmcl2,rutgers,hombre}!phri!roy "Arcane? Somewhere buried in the instruction file for Word Finder, they do mention where to put the Thesaurus file. It needs to be in the system folder, or it will ask you where the file is every time you run it. John Feinberg SUNY Buffalo ps There is an init called 'Fresh Start' that lets you redefine where programs put and/or look for prefrerence documents & the like. It also lets you put inits and cdevs in other folders

Could be you have the wounded version of Word Finder DA that comes with MS Word 4.0. Seems my documentation mentioned somewhere that I could get the real thing by sending more money to microlytics. Check the bumf that came with your Word package and see if you spot that little note - or was it in a readme file?
