This problem has been around for a long time. Apparently, the SIGHUP is not always acted on. On our 3B20's, this will cause vnews to accumulate incredible amounts of CPU time as the sys read calls are satisfied. Because of this and other programs that like to do that, I finally wrote a program that will kill programs with excessive (determined on the command line) CPU times.
