[comp.sys.mac.misc] How do we clean the CD-ROM lens?

mcguffey@muvms3.bitnet (Michael McGuffey) (08/10/90)

Our two-year old Apple CD-ROM reader just quit reading discs. We put
a disc in and the drive just spins and never mounts the disc. I'm
assuming this is the dreaded dusty lens syndrome.

What IS the recommended method for cleaning the lens and solving the
problem?

Go out to your local Record/CD store and buy (cost ~$20) a CD Laser
Lens Cleaner. The one I bought is a diskwasher(r).

Disclaimer: I don't own a CD-ROM. 'Nuff said.

However, I do own the following, which I have used *successfully* on a
recalcitrant *AUDIO* CD player:

	Compact Disc Laser Lens Cleaner
	LLC-1
	AudioSource (r)
	1327 North Carolan Avenue
	Burlingame, CA 94010

To put it simply, it looks like a CD with a little brush on the underside.
I bought it in a record store.
