I am interested in changing the default name of a newly erased disk
("Untitled") to something a bit more unorthodox ("foo").  In what file
does this default name exist--System or Finder--and in what form?  An
editable resource?  A hex string?  Thanks.

It's in DITL -6047, in the System file.  You'll need to use the DITL template,
not the standard DITL editor, because the item is normally hidden offscreen
(x=1065)
