[comp.sys.mac.misc] Mac Price = 2 X PC Price

brucec@tekgen.BV.TEK.COM (Bruce Cheney) (08/24/90)

I've been lobbying for more Macs in my company for about
4 years now. I even got my rabidly anti-Mac management to
buy a MacII two years ago to see if the claims of productivity
ease of use, etc. were really true.
Well, the MacII passed on flying colors in that department, but
the biggest obstacle I have now is that if you compare the prices
of an SE/30 with an "equivalent" 386 system, the SE/30 is almost
twice as expensive as the 386. Compare a MacIIcx with an equivalent
386 with color, and the MacIIcx is MORE than twice as expensive.
I'm not talking list prices, I'm talking the cheapest mail-order
you can find in the back of MacUser vs PC Magazine.
When the difference was 20% (two to three years ago), I could
wave my hands, develop spreadsheet models showing the productivity
benefits, etc. Now that it is 100%, and Windows 3.0 is making a
big splash, I am truly a voice in the wilderness.
Anyone else in a similar situation ?
