[comp.sys.mac.misc] Problem with Apple Hi-Res Color Monitor on Mac IIci

loganj@yvax.byu.edu (08/31/90)

Do we need to buy a video card for this monitor on a Mac IIci?

Hardware: Mac IIci, 4 meg ram, AppleColor High-Resolution RGB Monitor,
with Mac II Video card and memory for 256 colors (8 bit).

System 6.0.5, Finder 6.1.5

Problem: Under certain (repeatable) circumstances, the screen turns into a
picture of a horizontal rain-storm, like an old television set which has lost
its vertical and horizontal hold. The computer still works; applications can
be closed, etc., but the screen is a mess.

For example, if we close certain MS WORD (Version 4.0) documents, without
editing or saving them, and without quitting the application, the problem
will invariably occur. Not all MS WORD documents will do it, however, only
certain ones.

Also, certain MS BASIC (Version 2.00.00) programs will cause the problem
when they execute a "picture" statement, but not all programs, and not all
picture statements will cause it. It seems to have something to do with
what strings have been loaded into memory just before the picture
statement was executed.

Thanks and Regards,
