We have two AppleTalk networks of ~30 Macs each, connected to an Ethernet network through two Cayman Gator Boxes. A heavy load, I know. Each Mac has 40-60MB of files. We are running backups for these Macs over the network to a UNIX box, compressing the files on the UNIX box, and then dumping everything to Exabyte. Due to the narrow throughput of the Gator Box, and limited bandwidth, it takes about a week (6 hours a night, for 7 days) to do a full dump of all the Macs. Unfortunately for us, users want incrementals done every night. With our current setup, this is physically impossible. Does anyone know of *any* way to speed things up. We are open to all sugestions. Is there a *fast* tape drive that we can hang off the AppleTalk? Is there software to speed up the Gator Box? Thanks in advance. -- Craig Robinson Distributed Systems Services craig@casbah.acns.nwu.edu Academic Computing and Network Services
