[comp.sys.mac.misc] Source distribution of Mac programs

RMG3@psuvm.psu.edu (09/14/90)

The author of a computer column in a popular magazine has asked me
about writing programs for the Mac, and showing them in the column.
The programs are currently being written in BASIC for IBM compatibles.
Due to the constraints on the column, the programs run 50 to 100 lines,
this being the entire listing.

  Questions:
What language is most common on Macs? (I am _not_ asking which is best.)

In my limited experience on Macs, it seems that you can easily spend
50 to 100 lines just doing all the initializations required.
What is a reasonable guess for the number of lines required for minimal
  initialization? _or_
Can I reasonably assume that anyone who has a language on a Mac is already
able to set up the initializations?

Please reply by e-mail. I'll summarize if there are more than about 5
responses.

  Thanks,
