In an earlier posting, I alluded to problems with Alarming Events 1.0.1 that I had reported to CE software. Since folks have asked what they were I'll post them here for all to see. I got a Bus Error with Excel 2.2 (but only when it was run after an alarm with popup dialog had gone off following machine startup. The actual hang turned out to be in SuperClock 3.9. I'm still not sure why it happens with Excel and not other products. The crash occurs when SuperClock attempts to do an Open on .Timbuktu Host (presumably to find out if Timbuktu is running). I patched SuperClock to remove the open call and always return an indication that the open failed (since I'm not running Timbuktu). That cured this hang for me. The second hang is a matter of timing. It happens when you pull down the MFMenu list of applications just as a popup dialog alarm fires off. The results is that everything works normally except mouse clicks are totally ignored (which sort of stops any further progress :-) I have tried to reproduce this with OnCue (the commercial version of MFMenu) but had no success in a few attempts. However, you need to hit it at just the wrong moment to get the failure so it may happen with OnCue as well. I am still trying to catch the culprit of an unacceptable number of crashes with A0 trashed. I don't know if they are AE related but they seem to have appeared about the time I added it to my rather too lengthy collection of INITs. Hope this helps. -- Richard R.
