[comp.sys.mac.misc] Position of Trash Can

robol@cs.vu.nl (Rob Laan) (09/14/90)

On large screen dragging a file to the Trash Can in the bottom right
corner of the screen can be quite a drag. I would like to have the
Trash Can somewhere in the mid-top area of the screen.
Of course I can drag the Trash Can to this position every time after
startup,
but it would be nice if I could somehow redefine the startup position of
the Trash Can.

Is this possible?
How?

Thanks, Rob Laan

I have repositioned my trash can using something called
TrashMover that I got from archives at sumex. However, I
might suggest an even better place to put it. A few months
ago, one of the Apple User Interface people (Tog) pointed out
why having the menu bar at the top of the screen was so good
an idea. Basically, you can't overshoot the bar and so precise
aiming is not necessary -- just bang the mouse up to the top
of the screen. This means hitting the menu bar is easier than
in a menu bar per window scheme. I took his point to heart and
moved my trash can further down and to the right of where it
normally sits so that the title and part of the can is off
screen. Now when I want to trash something, I just slam it
down and to the right hard and let go! I never miss. I
recommend it highly. It just doesn't look as pretty so maybe
one day I'll figure out a better icon for that position.

In System 7.0, the Finder leaves the trash can where you put it. So just
wait for 7.0 and you'll be all set :) :) :)

Didn't someone say something just about exactly like this (different

The following was posted to USENET last year. Try it at your own risk,

Does that include icons for disks as well? I like to move my icons to a
row across the top to make room for _Launch's window. It'd be nice to
have to do it only once.

kinnikinnik - n. a Native American pipe tobacco. (Also, the longest
