I'm from the Wash. DC metro area, but I'm sure this works everywhere. To disable call waiting for the call you are about to make, follow these steps: 1. At dial tone, dial *70 (that's star-seventy) 2. You will hear three beeps of a dial tone, then a full dial tone 3. make your call; others calling in will get a busy signal, and be subsequently frustrated, but such is life When you hang up, call waiting will be automatically reinstated. For my Bell-type modem, I can issue the command ATDT *70,5551212 where ATDT instructs touch tone dialing, *70 is dialed, a pause of about two seconds (controllable via some odd register or another) occurs (long enough to wait for the three beeps), and then 5551212 is dialed. To disable call waiting for multiple calls, follow these steps: 1. Write your phone company, and tell them they suck 2. In about thirty seconds, it's "bye bye, call waiting!" The best bet is to call your phone company and make sure that it is available in your area, and if it isn't, ask them when they will update their equipment! However, do the rest of us a favor and kill the call waiting... I hate getting put on hold, or wondering if someone is "ignoring the beep"...
