[comp.sys.mac.misc] SID Test Utility.

miscord@hubcap.clemson.edu (Michael Scordilis) (09/21/90)

I have a couple of questions regarding SID.

1. I recorded sounds with the SID Test Utility, but I cannot play them back
unless SID (the hardware) is connected into the modem port. How can I play
the sound files without having to hook up the recording hardware?

2. If SID is connected into the printer port, it cannot be located (SE/30).

3. SID is using the Macintosh Audio Compression Format. Does anybody know any details?

Thanks,

And a different problem. I have a working SID-II, but I notice that
using the Test Utility to record to a disk file causes 'clicks' when
the disk drive spins when it has to write.

The click is actually a span of time when recording stops when the
drive is running. They are very short spurts, but long enough to make
a word unintelligible unless you try many times to beat the drive.

I had illusions that the RAM cache could delay the write, obviously no
luck. Any workarounds, or other PD recording programs?

(SE w/MultiFinder and various INITs that appear to all be stable)
