vnend@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (D. W. James) (09/23/90)
I just added an Ehman 60+ HD to my 512KE (MagicSCSI.) I am
running Finder 5.5 and System 4.1 (the most advanced Apple recommends
on the 512KE.)
Sometimes (yesterday) it works fine, I can copy to it, boot
from it, copy from it, all just fine. Sometimes, however...
Like today. I'm trying to copy things over to it so I can
stop using floppies except for transport. At the end of every-other
copy it dies with a system error #02 (improper mem. write, if I
remember correctly.) Eventually it required reinitialization. So
now I have 62 meg worth of useless memory under my machine.
I tried reformating on this machine (the disk came pre-formated)
and testing, and found no bad blocks and the format went just fine. At
this point I'm getting a little frustrated. Has anyone else had this
problem, and, if so, did you find a fix?
I couldn't decide if this was a hardware or a system problem,
so I'm posting it here. Mail or posting is ok, if there is any usefull
mail I'll summarize.
Summary: Can not copy to HD.
Mac512 with 128k ROMs and 800k drive. Works fine without HD.
Ehman 60+ hd, new (installed Thursday night.) SCSI id#6, terminated.
MacProducts MagicSCSI scsi-port daughterboard (clipon)
Running Finder 5.5 and System 4.1.
