[comp.sys.mac.misc] Corporate help needed

niko@du248-16.cc.iastate.edu (Schuessler Nikolaus E) (09/25/90)

I am part of a project group here at Iowa State University with a "mission"
to design a software/hardware system to help students with their Electrical
Engineering laboratories. This system should basically monitor the equipment
and offer suggestions/help if students get stuck. We have selected hardware &
drivers from National Instruments for the interface to the equipment.

The electrical engineering department just purchased 23 Mac SE/30's and a
IIfx, five software packages including Microsoft Word and Canvas (for
department use, but motivated by our project), as well as the interface
hardware specific for our project. Needless to say, that's a big investment.
Since we are not the only project group (there are actually more than were
originally expected) being funded by the department, there may be problems
in obtaining more funding for development software.

Is there anyone out there who could give me a phone number (preferred)
or address for someone at either Apple or Symantec to see if they'd be
willing to contribute? The drivers used for the hardware are useable from
either MPW C or THINK-C.

Our project group will be making a 'demo' version of our software for the
IIfx. This demo would be used at booths by the EE department to demonstrate
current projects to potential new students. Our group would be willing to come
to an agreement with any sponsoring company on placement of credits, etc.
within the software. Our faculty monitor is quite confident that
this project may be the only of its kind and could become quite popular
at other universities, resulting in duplication of our environment many times
over.

I suppose e-mail directly to me would make the most sense... Thanks in advance
to all that respond...
