[comp.sys.mac.misc] How to suppress locked file alert

lindahl@violet.berkeley.edu (Ken Lindahl 642-0866) (09/26/90)

When a locked document is double-clicked on the desktop, an ALRT is
presented saying "The document "<name>" is locked; you will not be able
to save any changes." is presented. When I say locked, I mean that the
"Locked" checkbox in the Finder Information window has been checked.
This ALRT is apparently coming from the Finder: the text of the message
is contained in STR# 129 in the Finder.

Is there any way to suppress this ALRT? I'm working with a collection of
instructional modules; for obvious reasons, these should not be modifiable
by the students. It is important that the students be able to start the
instructional session by double-clicking the module's icon (i.e. the document
icon, not the application icon). It gets tiresome very quickly to see this
ALRT every time a new module is started.

I know one solution to this problem: put the modules on a read-only
AppleShare filesystem. But a solution to the problem for locally
attached hard drives would still be desirable. Thanks in advance for
any suggestions.
