[comp.sys.mac.misc] New Macs - Education Pricing?

gaynor@hpuxa.ircc.ohio-state.edu (Jim Gaynor) (09/26/90)

An interesting little tidbit here for those of you who are
hungry for information on the soon-to-be released Macintosh Classic
and Macintosh IIsi. (Yes Chuq, I know they aren't released and
therefore don't exist. Neither do I. Poof!)

Our Apple Educational Rep has been merrily displaying an order
that the University of Michigan put in for, get this, 1,100 Mac
Classics with 2 Meg RAM and 40 Meg HDs. Not to mention the systems on
the order that were ordered "w/ RGB monitor" that the Rep told me were
IIsi's (but I think may be LCs) that were on the order. I believe it
came across to him from AppleLink, and he has been displaying it to
the OSU folks to try to goad them into buying Macs to keep up with our
rival school.

The most interesting part of the order, though, was the price.
Approximately $1050 for the 2/40 Mac Classics, and approx. $2500 for
the Color system configured at 2/40, -including- RGB monitor
(whichever system it was that was on the order). Granted, that was
the price to the school, so figure an extra 10%-15% on the price for
educational discounts. Nice...

DISCLAIMER: Lies. All lies. Damn lies.
