Personally, I find the path signatures appended by the author redundant: the news system itself takes care of adding the path if I'm sending a reply or a followup (and has done so ever since I've been on the net!); a saved article has the path information in its header. I've been having trouble replying to several replies mailed to me, mostly, I think, due to my lack of understanding about ARPA addresses. Besides, judging by some of the horror stories, including a path as text is the only way to insure it won't get munged. *** Personal to Paul G.: Mail doesn't seem to be getting through, please call.
